This giant granny square bedspread pattern was created based on a free giant granny square crochet pattern. Check the link for a row-by-row written instruction and necessary explanation on how to crochet a single giant granny square. To complete the bedspread or afghan you will need to make 6 squares for a twin size bed or 9 squares for a queen size bed.

Finished bedspread size: approx. 145 cm x 205 cm
Single square size: approx. 24''(61 cm) 
Hook size: 5,5 mm (I)
Yarn: 100% Acrylic, 355 yards (198 gr), about 1600 gr
Color scheme #1: one skein of beige, maroon, light gray, green and white (5 colors in total)
Color scheme #2: one skein of light blue, dark blue, light gray, medium blue, beige and white (6 colors in total)

This is how 6 square bedcover looks on a queen size bed. It's a bit small on the sides. I recommend to add 3 more squares to make it wider:
Giant granny square bedspread free pattern instruction
1. Make 6 (for twin bed) or 9 (for queen size bed) granny squares according to the chart below. If you need row-by-row written instruction and additional explanations, please check «Free giant granny square crochet pattern».
2. You will find 2 color schemes for the squares below (the pattern is the same for both of them). You can make 2 additional color schemes based on presented pattern, just switch marron and green in the first color scheme and dark blue and medium blue in the second one. Be aware that first scheme has 5 different colors and second uses six of them.

Joining finished squares together
Join squares together using your favourite technique.
On the picture you can see that granny squares were joined after they were completely finished with double crochet stitches (make one unfinished dc in the first square, then the other unfinished dc in the symmetrical stitch of the second square, then join all of the loops on your hook at once, repeat on every dc till you rich the end of both squares).
Finishing bedspread
After all squares are joined together in a single piece, make 4 final rows around bedspread to give the finished touch to your work.
Row 1: make a granny-style row with dark-blue yarn: 3 dc in the chain stitch of the previous row, 1 chain stitch, skip 3 dc of the previous row, repeat.
Row 2: the same as 1-st row but with beige yarn.
Row 3: 1 dc in every dc of the previous row, 1 chain stitch on top of every chain stitch of the previous row.
Row 4: 1 sc in the 1-st dc of the previous row, 3 chain stitch, skip the 2-nd dc of the previous row, 1 sc in the 3-d dc of the previous row, 3 chain stitch, skip 1 chain stitch of the previous row, repeat.
How to work corners in finishing rows
Work corners the same way as in the granny square pattern for Row 1 and 2.
For Row 3 make (1 dc, ch2, 1 dc) in corner ch2 of Row 2.
For Row 4 make (1 sc, ch3, 1 sc) in corner ch2 of Row 3, ch3 to start the side in the 1st dc of Row3.
